Researching Ways to Make Memories Last a Lifetime
Your Gift is Important.
Thank you for your interest in supporting Alzheimer’s research at UCI MIND.
Our mailing address is:

Research today. Hope tomorrow. A transformational increase in research funding is needed to find the answers that will prevent future generations from suffering from age-related dementias such as Alzheimer’s disease.
The numbers speak volumes: 5.4 million individuals in the US today with 16 million expected by 2050. Every day 10,000 Baby Boomers turn 65 just as their risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease begins to rise. The cost in this country for Alzheimer’s disease care, including Medicare and Medicaid, is estimated to be $200 billion a year!
We face bankrupting our nation, financially, physically and emotionally unless we find treatments that work.
Your donations will help develop new techniques to advance our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurological disorders.
Your gift can make a difference! Thank you for coming to this page.
Dementia strikes at the very core of what makes us uniquely human and impacts not only the individual, but those loved ones who provide care and support. We are making great strides in this battle but we rely on research partnerships and financial support from people like you.
As you know, resources and financial support are limited, making it difficult to fund all of the very promising potential research. Your donations to UCI MIND, however, have allowed clinical and basic science research activities to move ahead as we work together in fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
Some people give direct donations of cash; some have asked that memorial donations be sent in lieu of flowers, and some have left money to the program as a legacy gift in their will or estate. There are many ways to support UCI MIND.
Each gift helps shape the future of our research. If you wish to support Alzheimer’s disease research at UCI MIND, you may do so by sending your tax-deductible contribution to the Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders, UCI MIND, payable to UCI MIND. All donors are acknowledged in the UCI MIND MIND Matters newsletter.
Help support critical areas of need at UCI MIND:
$100-$500 will help to provide computers for the clinic, patient financial and transportation assistance, and other desired resources for patients and their families.
$1,000 provides PET scans for both Alzheimer’s disease and cognitively normal research participants to advance imaging as an early, non-invasive diagnostic tool.
$2,500 supports the collection of tear fluid from 25 research subjects with the goal of using tears as a possible diagnostic tool for Alzheimer’s disease.
$5,000 provides on-the-job training of medical students, nurses and physicians in how to best treat and interact with patients and families faced with Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.
$10,000 funds MRIs for 10 patients.
$25,000 supports the purchase of one fluorescent microscope used to examine prepared tissue samples in order to advance Alzheimer’s disease research.
$50,000 will either:
- Fund the collection of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) from 125 patients to advance biomarker research.
- Support the Adopt-a-Graduate Student Scholarship Program, providing a stipend, tuition, and lab supplies for one graduate student for one year.
$75,000 Adopt-a-Post Doctoral Fellow Program, providing support for one year of salary, equipment and supplies for one postdoctoral scholar to investigate a promising new line of research.
$100,000 Adopt-a-Junior Investigator Program, providing support for one year of salary, equipment, and supplies for one junior faculty pursuing new and innovative ideas not funded by the NIA.
$250,000 supports the purchase of a Stereology System, vital to the advancement of stem cell research.
$500,000 is an opportunity to fund the UCI MIND Memory Assessment and Research Center in your name for one year. The center provides state-of-the-art memory assessments to the community and follows over 300 research volunteers who have Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, or are cognitively normal, on an annual basis to help us better understand differences between successful agers and older adults who become cognitively impaired.
$1,000,000 Adopt-a-Scientist Program, in the name of the donor, providing support for five years of salary, equipment and supplies to a UCI MIND newly recruited scientist.
$3,500,000 Endowment of the Director This gift, in the name of the donor, will establish a coveted endowed director position, providing UCI MIND the means to support a distinguished member of the faculty to mentor scientists at UCI MIND. Such an endowment will reflect your values in supporting research and will serve as an enduring testament to your generosity.
